Welcome to the website of

POLYPHONY: Voices of New Mexico!

We are New Mexico’s newest professional choral ensemble and are unique to the Land of Enchantment in that all of our singers reside in the State of New Mexico. Several of our singers have grown up here, been educated here and elsewhere in the country, and internationally, and have returned to this beautiful part of the world to make music together.

The ensemble was founded in 2006 by Dr. Maxine Thévenot. Our roster of singers is a flexible one of some 35 singers allowing for performances of the finest choral repertoire ranging from the medieval period to modern day. We present concerts twice a year, in June and December, in some of New Mexico’s most beloved acoustical and enchanting spaces, including The Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe; The Old San Ysidro Church; and the Cathedral Church of St. John, Albuquerque.

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe,
wings to the mind, flight to the imagination,
and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.

– Plato

We hope you come to feed your heart, mind, and soul and choose to come celebrate fine music-making with Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico this season!

Review of Summer Solstice Concert!

Pasatiempo
Santa Fe New Mexican
27 June 2008

Craig Smith, music critic

Polyphony's first mixed-chorus incarnation gave its Santa Fe premiere on June 22 in Loretto Chapel in Summer Solstice, a refreshing, vibrant concert of rather unusual repertoire, alertly but unfussily conducted by Thevenot ... The enthusiastic audience applauded after every piece ... the  musical intent was clear as crystal ... Vaughan Williams' "Willow Song" practically exhaled the melancholy peace of a sunset in the forest—the sunset of the heart as well as in the sky ... Stanford's "The Swallow" and "The Bluebird" were first-rate in terms of blend and ease ... This group was good, from language skills to voices to attitude.  ... (with a) tightly focused, intelligent, and healthy (sound) ... serenely done ... enchantingly energetic.
